Surveys Administered by the College

The following surveys represent those that are routinely administered by the College. The results are used by individual departments and many are benchmarked with like institutions. Participation in these surveys is entirely voluntary. ASQ—Admitted Student Questionnaire• Who? Students who have been admitted to the College, whether or not they have accepted the offer of admission. ACUHO-I/EBI Resident Satisfaction Survey
The EBI measures such areas as student satisfaction in such areas as room assignments and the change process; dining services; safety and security; hall and/or apartment programming; room/floor environment; sense of community; satisfaction with residence life program and housing experience. A report is available in July. AlcoholEDU
This survey assesses students’ attitudes and beliefs; use of alcohol; perceptions of the consequences of high-risk use of alcohol; and the use of protective behaviors. A report is available in February/March of the following semester. CIRP—Cooperative Institutional Research Program
Measures demographic characteristics of incoming students; expectations of the college experience; secondary school experiences; degree goals and career plans; college finances; attitudes, values and life goals; reasons for attending college. A report is available in June/July. CORE Alcohol and Drug Survey
Measures patterns of alcohol and drug use; demographic data; secondary effects of substance use; attitudes and values; assessment of campus environment; housing preference; relation of substance use to patterns of sexual behavior. A report is available in late spring in the year of administration. CSS—College Student Survey
This survey measures satisfaction with the college experience; student involvement; cognitive and affective development; student values, attitudes and goals; degree aspirations and career plans; Internet, electronic mail and other computer uses. The report is available by September 15. National College Health Assessment (NCHA-II)
This survey measures alcohol, tobacco and other drug use; sexual health; weight, nutrition and exercise; mental health; personal safety and violence. The report is available in the late fall in year of administration NSSE—National Survey of Student Engagement
This survey asks students about their participation in the programs and activities that contribute to their learning and personal development; level of academic challenge; active and collaborative learning experiences; student-faculty interaction; enriching educational experiences; and supportive campus environment questions. A report is available in August. Wabash National Study of Liberal Arts Education(sponsored by the Center for Inquiry in the Liberal Arts, Wabash College)
Items survey three areas: (1) Good Teaching and High Quality Interactions with Faculty, which includes the following subscales: faculty interest in teaching and student development, prompt feedback, quality of non-classroom interactions with faculty, teaching clarity and organization; (2) Academic Challenge and High Expectations, which includes the following subscales: academic challenge and effort, frequency of higher-order exams and assignments, challenging classes and high faculty expectations, integrating ideas, information and experiences; and, (3) Diversity Experiences, which includes: meaningful interactions with diverse peers. A final report will be available at the conclusion of the study, 2012. |
