Student Programs for Urban Development (SPUD) is a community service organization sponsored by the Chaplains' Office. Consisting of 46 different outreach programs and 700 members, SPUD is the largest student organization at Holy Cross.
We hope to facilitate meaningful service experiences in the Worcester community and offer valuable educational resources in order to help students think critically about the social structures of injustice and take action toward change.
We understand our service to those who are marginalized in terms of developing a relationship of solidarity. Therefore, participants in the SPUD program are expected to commit to the following:
- Orientation program in September
- Weekly service in a designated SPUD program
- Monthly reflections led by a student Program Director
Pax Christi, a chapter of Pax Christi International, meets Sunday nights in the Campion House Living Room from 8:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. All students are welcome. The group has a threefold focus: to educate its members on issues of justice, war, and peace; to foster a strong sense of community among its members through prayer, reflection, and discussion; and to decide on specific actions to promote justice.
